Pop culture knows him as “Valak,” the demon nun of The Conjuring 2 and The Nun — an image with nothing in common with the grimoire's child on a two-headed dragon.
A fallen angel styled on the wiki "the Defiler" and "the Marquis of Snakes," he has merged in modern lore with the demon-nun of the Conjuring films. In that legend the Knights Templar sealed him in the catacombs of the Carta monastery in Romania; freed by World War II bombing, he stalked the abbey in a nun's habit in mockery of the sisters' faith, killing them until he was banished. His listed enemies include Ed and Lorraine Warren and Hellboy, whose crown he twice tried to steal, earning imprisonment at the hands of Astaroth.
