Murmur
Murmus · Murmux

A warrior with a ducal crown, riding a gryphon; his ministers go before him with trumpets.
Teaches philosophy perfectly, and constrains the souls of the deceased to appear and answer questions.
Latin murmur — “a murmur, a droning.” The catalogue's chief necromancer; before the fall he was partly of the Order of Thrones and partly of Angels.
Before his fall he bore the name Matthias and held high authority as a Great Duke within the choir of Thrones. Joining Lucifer's rebellion, he is said in one account to have taken a griffin from the Garden of Eden as his war-steed, and in another to have severed the eagle portion of a cherub's body with his sword, the limb corrupted by his malice becoming his mount. After the defeat in the War in Heaven he fell with the rest and was appointed Great Duke and Earl in Hell's monarchy, his demonic griffin remaining at his side for battle.
The Chronicle
Murmur (or Murmus, Murmuur, Murmux), formerly known as Matthias, is a Great Duke and Earl of Hell, and has thirty legions of demons under his command. He is the 54th of the 72 Demon Spirits summoned by King Solomon.
Description
Murmur is depicted as a soldier riding a vulture or a Griffin, and wearing a ducal crown. Two of his ministers go before him making the sound of trumpets. Murmur is a master necromancer who is able to revived and control the dead along with their souls. Some authors portray him simply as a vulture.
Overview
When still an angel, known as Matthias, he was framed as the Great Duke of the Thrones and as such held a high position of authority among the choir of Thrones. However, much like the rest of the Ars Goetia, Murmur joined Lucifer's rebellion against Heaven and God though his reasons are unknown. It is said that before the ensuing battle, Murmur went to the Garden of Eden and took a Griffin that resided there as his steed in order to charge into battle. In an alternate account, Murmur battled against one of the Cherubim and slashed the eagle part of the angel's body off with his sword. Murmur's act of malice infected the eagle limb and was taken by the fallen Throne.
Murmur was among the host of angels that was defeated after the War in Heaven and fell from grace in the process. After Hell became a monarchy, Murmur was appointed as a Great Duke and Earl of Hell, with his demonic Griffin remaining by his side and used for battle. He teaches Philosophy, and can oblige the souls of the deceased to appear before the conjurer to answer every desired question. According to some authors he also teaches music.
Murmur makes the souls of the dead appear and answer. Be sure you are ready to hear a voice you will recognise.
